To find out whether AI assistants recommend your brand, you ask them the questions your buyers ask — across multiple platforms, repeatedly — and record whether your brand is named, how it's framed, and which competitors appear instead.
A practical guide to finding out what ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity actually say about your business.
It's tempting to type your brand name into ChatGPT and see what comes back. But that tells you what AI says when prompted with your name — not whether AI recommends you when a buyer asks a category question without knowing you exist. Those are very different. The question that matters isn't "What does AI say about [your brand]?" It's "When someone asks AI for the best [your category], does your brand come up at all?"
You can do a rough version by hand: write ten buyer-intent questions, ask each across the four major assistants, and tally whether you're mentioned. It's tedious and snapshot-only, but it's a start.
The limitation is that manual checking can't track change over time, can't run enough queries to be statistically meaningful, and can't tell you why you're absent. That's what AI Recommendation Intelligence tools are for. Axis Suite runs real queries across the major AI assistants on a schedule, records whether you're mentioned and recommended, identifies which competitors hold your spot, and tracks whether your visibility moves after you make changes — so you can see what's actually working.
If you find your brand isn't mentioned at all, that's the most common starting point — and it's not a sign AI dislikes you. It means AI hasn't formed an impression of your business yet. The fix isn't damage control; it's establishing the entity clarity and category-relevant content that let AI identify and include you, then re-measuring.
